Everything at the farm needs a cover from the elements. We started with the original 30 acres, an 85 year old farm house, a pavilion and a barn. We needed a cover for both tractors and trailers when storing materials for the various projects under construction.
Locals suggested that we check out the farm auction held once a month in Idabel, OK. Needless to say, we quickly became a frequent shopper.
We noticed a 16’x24’x40′ pole barn kit at auction and decided this would fit our needs so we bid and bought it. Using the 20′ trailer and our truck, the good folks loaded the kit onto the trailer and we towed it to the farm about 40 miles away.
A local contractor, Tanner and Brock contracted with us to assemble the pole barn.
First we found the best grade for the floor and marked the pole locations. After the poles were set, we set the headers and hip boards and then we raised the trusses using the tractor. Once the trusses were in place, the roof tin was installed and then we painted the exterior. Once the pole barn was complete, we ordered 3 semi-truck loads of gravel (about 80 tons) for the floor and drive way to the barns.
Later we added electric to the pole barn and soon we will install the lights.
